Features: Pay deals

National Audit Office agrees 5%

Public spending watchdog the National Audit Office has agreed a 5% increase in the minimum of all grades backdated to April. The deal comprised a 2.4% increase on each grade maximum and a flat rate consolidated rise of 3.9% of the pay range midpoint for all staff at or above that point (with performance rated as "effective" or better). Individuals below the pay range mid-point who meet the performance criteria get between 5% and 3.9% (depending on their position in the range) ensuring a faster rate of progression for staff in the lower half of the range. Staff rated "needs attention" get a cost of living increase equivalent to 2.4% of the mid-point of their range while staff rated "unacceptable" receive no increase. The deal included a rise in the "underpinning minimum" for London Allowance to £4,082 (the allowance is set at 11% of salary), while the maximum Recruitment and Retention Allowance rose to £1,257.
