Electrolux workers save jobs and wages

The campaign by Electrolux workers in Italy against plans by the Swedish multinational to make major cuts in costs at the expense of the employees (see Labour Research, March 2014, page 8) has produced further successes for the workers and their unions.

After the announcement in February that it would keep all its four Italian plants open — initially one was set for closure — the company said last month that there would be no immediate redundancies and no cuts in pay.

Some 1,200 jobs are still planned to go but this will not be until 2017.
