New teachers’ body established

The non-TUC-affiliated National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) is adding to the crowded teachers’ union market by establishing an organisation for “middle leaders in education”.

Its affiliate association, to be called NAHT Edge, will offer “a blend of traditional trade union protection and high quality leadership development”. It will not have a no-strike policy.

The NAHT says it will use online media to allow all active members to create policy and express their voice.

The organisation is due to be up and running in September, and “hopes for up to 5,000 members in the first few years.”
