Inflation falls

Inflation was at its lowest level for two years, official figures show.


The inflation rate under the Retail Prices Index (RPI), which is favoured by union negotiators, fell to 2.7% in December from 3.2% in November. 


Under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), the government’s preferred measure, inflation was down to 2.1% from 2.3%, while under CPI Housing the rate was down to 2.0% from 2.2%.
