Teachers’ pay deal confirmed

Teachers’ unions have welcomed the government’s confirmation that teachers will receive the agreed pay increases of 2.3% in September 2009 and again in September 2010.

Christine Blower, general secretary of the NUT teachers’ union said: “We are pleased the government has agreed to honour the long-term pay settlement announced in 2008. This pay increase does not reverse the pay losses that teachers have suffered ...but at least it is a step in the right direction.”
