Royal Mail deal accepted

CWU communication workers’ union members at Royal Mail have backed the deal concluded in March (see Workplace Report March p.3) by more than two to one. The three-year agreement sets out a pay and modernisation programme, along with improved industrial relations and job security, resolving the long-standing dispute between the union and management and emphasising a “culture of co-operation” between them.

Dave Ward, CWU deputy general secretary, said of the result: “This is a strong ballot result for a strong deal. The deal recognises the importance for staff in successfully implementing change and rewarding people for their work. The old ‘them and us’ mentality simply had to go.”
