Equal Opportunities Commission launches maternity rights website

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has launched a website providing advice and information on pregnancy and maternity rights at work. Many women are unfairly dismissed or sacked from work because they are pregnant, and are often unaware of their legal rights.

Julie Mellor, EOC chair said: "Last year the EOC received more than 1,400 complaints and enquiries about pregnancy and maternity issues at work, and more than 200 of those related specifically to pregnancy dismissal. It is appalling that women are still today being victimised for being pregnant".

The Pregnancy and Maternity advice site can be accessed via the EOC website: www.eoc.org.uk
