Biffa pay settled in Wirral

Workers employed by waste company Biffa on the Wirral council contract have settled their pre-coronavirus pay dispute with a 3.5% pay rise backdated to April 2019. The introduction of monthly pay (one of the original disputed issues) will go ahead later this year but Unite will be fully consulted and it will come with a 0.5% one off payment of annual salary.

Plans to strike over pay were called off when the union said industrial action would not take place during the pandemic. Members did stop work on 7 April over coronavirus health complaints (see page 18), but Unite hopes this pay deal will pave the way for improved industrial relations.
