TUC to call for European law on stress

The European Commission says more action is needed to tackle workplace stress - raising hopes of a directive on the issue. The Commission has launched a consultation on occupational stress, aimed at both employers and unions. It says it is a costly problem, with 28% of European workforce - 41million workers - suffering from workplace stress in 2000. Owen Tudor, TUC health and safety specialist, says the TUC will call for new European laws on preventing stress at work, using Swedish laws as a model.
