New GFTU leader

The General Federation of Trade Unions, which brings together 21 specialist unions with a total of some 215,000 members, has elected a new general secretary.

Doug Nicholls, formerly of general union Unite, will replace current incumbent Michael Bradley when he retires.

Nicholls was leader of the Community and Youth Workers’ Union, and stayed as the main officer for that group of members when they joined Unite.
