Inflation stays high

RPI inflation, the preferred inflation measure for union negotiators, remained elevated at 4.3% in May 2025, down from a revised estimate of 4.4% the month before.

Both RPI and CPI inflation were overstated by 0.1 percentage points in April due to a data error, but the Office for National Statistics does not revise its figures once published.

CPI now stands at 3.4%, well above the Bank of England’s 2% target rate.
