Prospect calls for union recognition in offshore wind investment

Prospect union has urged the government to tie offshore wind supply chain funding to conditions requiring union recognition and the creation of secure, well-paid jobs.

Following prime minister Keir Starmer’s announcement of £300 million for Great British Energy, Prospect general secretary Mike Clancy said: “The government has a lot of leverage… and it must start using it” to ensure the energy transition benefits UK workers.

Giving evidence to Parliament’s inquiry into clean energy workforce planning, Prospect senior deputy general secretary Sue Ferns said private companies have a role — but a national strategy is essential due to the scale of demand for skilled jobs.
