Publicising policies
[ch 3: page 28]There are no minimum legal requirements that an employer has to take to show they have taken reasonable steps to protect their staff, but all employers will be expected to have in place a well-publicised anti-harassment policy along with a clear procedure which sets out how to deal with harassment cases and how to protect the workers involved. (See Chapter 4 about drawing up a policy).
It is simply not enough to just have a harassment policy in place. The policy should be made widely available in numerous ways, for example, being included in induction packs, employee handbooks and being available on the work intranet.
Everyone in the workplace should know about the policy and be aware of what action to take in the event of any incident.
