Identifying the reason for dismissal

It is the employer’s responsibility to state clearly the reason for any proposed dismissal and to be able to defend the fairness of the decision to dismiss for the stated reason.

Employers do not have to show that the employee actually was incapable of performing the job – just that they honestly believed the employee could not do the job and had reasonable grounds for that belief.
