Union wants bus precautions retained
Bus companies must work alongside the police to provide enforcement officers to ensure bus passengers comply with Covid safety rules, the Unite union has said. Responding to the government’s announcement on the delay until 19 July in lifting remaining Covid restrictions, it stated that rules on mask wearing and reduced capacity on public transport must remain in place after that revised date. Bus drivers from across the UK are reporting increasing non-compliance with the rules, said Unite. It pointed to the high fatality rate among drivers and said increasing Covid-19 infection rates are putting passengers and bus drivers at renewed risk.
