Health and Safety Law 2023 (November 2023)

Chapter 5

Making the working environment safe and healthy

[page 57]

This chapter summarises the key duties contained in the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 (Workplace Regulations) which lay down minimum standards for workplaces, the working environment and welfare facilities. It also refers to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and union guidance on implementing the requirements of the regulations.

It examines separate legislation on driving for work, and industry-specific laws covering construction and offshore workplaces and in mines and quarries. There is also information on how the building regulations apply to new workplaces being constructed and on fire safety law covering workplace premises.

Finally, it includes HSE and union guidance on working from home.
