Compensation in a successful unfair dismissal claim is made up of:

• a basic award (equivalent to a statutory redundancy payment); plus

• a compensatory award, which includes actual and future loss of earnings and other losses caused by the dismissal; and

• (rarely) an additional award: this is only applicable in cases where reinstatement or reengagement has been ordered and the employer has failed to comply.
