Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)
The union marked 2024 Dog Awareness Week (1–7 July) with a call on the incoming government to toughen up existing laws on dog control and police enforcement. It said an average of 42 delivery postal workers are attacked by dogs every week and reported that attacks had risen by 15% for the second year running. The increase in dog attacks was registered in wider society, with Alder Hey Children’s Hospital announcing that dog attacks had risen by 70% and 29 people had been mauled to death by dogs since 2021.
