In Bellman v Northampton Recruitment Ltd [2019] IRLR 66, the managing director of a recruitment agency punched one of his employees and caused him brain damage. The incident happened after a works Christmas party when some members of staff continued to drink at a hotel bar in an unplanned extension of the main event. The Court of Appeal ruled that the company was vicariously liable for the assault.
