Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)

HSE guidance, Managing shift work, says “undesirable effects” are particularly associated with night shifts and early morning starts. They include disruption of the internal body clock, fatigue, sleeping difficulties, disturbed appetite and digestion, reliance on sedatives and/or stimulants, and social and domestic problems. These can “affect performance, increase the likelihood of errors and accidents at work and might have a negative effect on health”.
