Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)
A Hazards analysis of the 25 standards “exposes a drift in Britain from matching or exceeding EU chemical limits, to a state of regulatory stagnation”. It found that in 10 instances, the British standard was weaker than the new EU standard and “often considerably less protective”. In 12 cases, the limits were the same, in two cases (MDA and diesel engine exhaust), there was no directly comparative standard and in just one case – the lung and bladder cancer-causing substance MbOCA, there was a more protective standard in Britain.
