Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)
Occupational asthma is an allergic reaction, characterised by periodic attacks of wheezing, chest tightness or breathlessness resulting from restriction of the airways. It can occur in some people when they are exposed to substances, for example flour or wood dust in the workplace. It can be caused by manufactured chemicals or naturally occurring materials, such as fungal spores.
