The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal is capped at £115,115 (from 6 April 2024), or 52 weeks’ gross pay, whichever is the lower. Although there is no maximum cap in cases of dismissal for health and safety reasons or for whistleblowing, in practice, large awards are rare. The average award for a successful unfair dismissal claim in 2022-23 was just £11,914.
