Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)

Employers should only use a carcinogen if there is no reasonable alternative. They are required to remove or reduce exposure “as far as is reasonably practical”. Unions make clear that employers should not see any workplace limit as a “green light” to expose workers up to that limit. There is no safe limit for carcinogens. The legal requirement is to reduce exposure as far as is reasonably practical (see pages 3-4).
