Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)
In the view of UK Hazards Campaign chair Janet Newsham, the collapse of the Bosley Mill corporate manslaughter case highlighted the inadequate legal redress and dysfunctional enforcement of the current system: “The director of the company … pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, and the four families devastated by the deaths of their loved ones saw him sentenced to a nine-month suspended sentence and a minimal fine. The deaths of four workers doesn’t seem to matter and in many other cases employers are quite literally getting away with murder!”
