Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)
The HSWA provides a broad framework for the regulation of health and safety through one comprehensive, integrated system of law. It is written in very general terms and the duties on employers are qualified with the words “so far as is reasonably practicable”. This means employers can argue that the cost of safety measures is not justified by the reduction in risk, but they cannot avoid their responsibilities simply by claiming they cannot afford improvements.
