Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)

In December 2023, Timmins Waste Services Ltd was fined £400,000 after being convicted of the corporate manslaughter of employee David Willis. He was killed in an industrial shredder in its Wolverhampton site in September 2018. Yard manager Brian Timmins was also jailed for seven-and-half years after being previously convicted of gross negligence manslaughter. He was operating a digger and lifted Willis onto the top of an industrial shredder following a blockage which had jammed the machine. The labourer was then seen on CCTV working on and within the shredder when the machine was still operating.
