Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)
The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) operates a licensing scheme to regulate “gangmasters” — companies or individuals providing temporary workers in the agriculture, horticulture and shellfish gathering sectors, and in associated processing and packaging activities. It checks licensed gangmasters are providing necessary safety equipment as well as properly paying wages, tax and holiday pay and providing decent transport and accommodation. It investigates reports of unlicensed gangmasters in the UK fresh-produce sector and has powers to investigate and tackle cases of forced labour, human trafficking and other labour abuse across the economy.
