Safety reps are union officials, so they also benefit from the protection in section 152 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992, which makes it automatically unfair to dismiss an employee for the sole or main reason of their trade union membership or activities, and section 146 of the same act, which covers detriment.
