Health and Safety Law 2024 (October 2024)

Although high fines often attract a lot of publicity, they are not always as punitive as they appear at first. For example, a £300,000 fine handed down to Priory Healthcare in 2019 for health and safety failings following the death of 14-year-old Amy El-Keria in its Ticehurst hospital in 2012, represented less than two days’ profit for its parent company, Priory Group, according to an investigation by research organisation Corporate Watch.
