Family, home and caring responsibilities can result in sickness absence. During the pandemic, employers and the government found new ways to arrange and pay for time off work for employees with caring responsibilities that went well beyond the existing right to a reasonable amount of time off to deal with an emergency involving a dependant. But whether any long-term lessons have been learned remains to be seen (see pages 21-23).
