Alongside employer commitments, absence policies are likely to require employees to adhere to the policy’s rules and procedures, but may go further than that, stipulating how employees are expected to behave. These clauses in any absence policy can be just as significant as the statement of management principles and the wording should not, for example, appear to encourage or condone presenteeism (see page 7).
