[ch 3: page 20]Even before the pandemic, a good sick pay scheme should have allowed for the possibility of paid time off for members of staff who have been in contact with an infectious condition. For example, a pre-pandemic policy at West Berkshire Council entitled an employee prevented from attending work because of contact with an infectious disease to receive normal pay, with the period of absence not reckoned against the employee’s entitlement to sick pay.
