Chapter 10

Enforcing the National Minimum Wage

[page 76]

Workers who are not being paid the National Minimum Wage can complain online at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/pay-and-work-rights-complaints. This can lead to an investigation by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) National Minimum Wage compliance officers. Any arrears that are recovered are then paid to workers. Alternatively, a worker can bring a claim direct in the ET.

Advice can also be found on the web page of the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority https://www.gla.gov.uk/i-am-a/i-am-a-worker. The GLAA provides instructions on confidential reporting of exploitative employers, but it does not enforce claims for the National Minimum Wage.
