TSSA

The TSSA transport union is to recruit a temporary acting national secretary from existing staff rather than running a general secretary election, which would have been due at the end of 2021.

The unusual arrangement, which has been agreed with the certification officer, is due to the union’s impending merger with the US-based union, The Boilermakers. The timescale of the merger meant a new leader would have, at most, only months in office.

The election of a new national secretary will take place once the transition has been completed. The acting national secretary will not be eligible to stand for this post.
