Health and Safety Law 2021 (October 2021)

Chapter 10

Working time rights — a summary

[ch 10: page 203]

Under the WTR, most UK workers — not just employees — have the right to:

• a maximum average working week of 48 hours, including overtime;

• a maximum of eight hours’ night work;

• a daily rest period of 11 hours;

• a day off per week;

• a rest break if working more than six hours; and

• paid annual leave of 5.6 weeks.

There are also specific limits on the working time of night workers and young workers (those aged 15 and over but under 18).
