Health and Safety Law 2021 (October 2021)

Chapter 10

Working time and the coronavirus pandemic

[ch 10: pages 199]

The main legislative change relating to working time introduced during the pandemic has been around the organisation of holidays.

The government also temporarily relaxed enforcement of the retained European Union (EU) drivers’ hours rules in response to pressures on local and national supply chains. Unions described the relaxation in July and August (and extended to October 2021) as a dangerous decision that could cause significant health and safety risks to lorry drivers and other road users.
