Health and Safety Law 2021 (October 2021)

Chapter 8

Homeworking and display screen equipment

[ch 8: page 158]

With so many people working at home during the coronavirus outbreak, the HSE is highlighting its guidance to employers on protecting employees working from home. This stresses the fact that they have the same health and safety responsibilities for homeworkers as for any other workers.

It highlights: the need to pay attention to those working alone without supervision; work with display screen equipment; and stress and mental health. It is available on the HSE website.

Unions are concerned that even more workers will develop musculoskeletal disorders as a result of prolonged homeworking on unsuitable workstations (see Chapter 9).
