Chapter 9

New EU Directive on work-life balance

[ch 9: page 340]

A new EU directive on work-life balance, replacing the existing Framework Agreement on Parental Leave, will come into force in around two years, providing new EU-level rights to paternity, parental and carers’ leave. The extent to which UK workers benefit, if at all, from this new Directive will depend on the terms of any trade deal negotiated between the UK and the EU.
