Working safely with COVID-19 - a guide for workplace reps (February 2021)

Chapter 5

NHS Test and Trace

[ch 5: page 27]

NHS Test and Trace aims to ensure that anyone who develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) can be tested quickly to find out if they have the virus. But unions have heavily criticised the privately-run service (see pages 12-13).

If someone tests positive for coronavirus, NHS Test and Trace should contact them and request information about people they have been in close contact with.

People who have been in close contact with someone who tests positive must self-isolate for 10 days even if they have no symptoms.

There is also an NHS COVID-19 app available to download for free in England and Wales from www.COVID19.nhs.uk. Guidance on how businesses should use the app and the NHS QR poster is on the gov.uk website.

A Unite general union rep at automotive supply company Stadco Powys, told LRD that workers there must fill in an app on their phone every day before attending work. This asks questions including whether they have taken their temperature, do they feel well, and have they been in contact with anyone showing COVID-19 symptoms.
