Union hails ‘industry-leading’ trans policy

The Communication Workers Union has welcomed an “industry-leading trans healthcare benefit” introduced by Virgin Media O2 as part of an enhanced pay deal and family-friendly policies negotiated by the CWU.

The new policy commits the company to funding “gender-affirming surgery and gender identity support for trans and non-binary employees”, says the union, and “places VMO2 firmly in the vanguard of companies offering progressive support for trans employees”.

CWU’s national officer for VMO2, Tracey Fussey, said “the company can justly be proud of the trail it is blazing”.

“Very few employers are even looking at offering the level of support for trans employees that VMO2 is introducing,” she concluded.
