Automatically unfair reasons for dismissal

Dismissal and selection for redundancy for certain reasons is automatically unfair, meaning that the employer is not allowed to argue that a dismissal for that reason was reasonable. The main categories are described below. Except for dismissals relating to business transfers or spent convictions (both of which require two years’ service), no service is needed to claim automatically unfair dismissal. Instead, the right is available from the start of the employment.
