Equality Law at Work 2018 - a guide for trade unions and working people (October 2018)

Chapter 8

Physical features

[ch 8: page 60]

Section 20(4), EA 10 says that where a physical feature puts a disabled person at a substantial disadvantage when compared with non-disabled co-workers, an employer must take all reasonable steps to avoid that disadvantage. This could include steps, emergency exits, lifts, signs and so on. A reasonable adjustment might include providing an office for the disabled worker on the ground floor, or modifying a building so that it is wheelchair friendly.

Again, the only relevant question is whether making the relevant adjustment is reasonable.
