Protecting workers from violence and abuse - a union rep's guide (February 2017)

Chapter 3

Stage 4: Checking what has been done

[ch 3: page 36]

The HSE recommends that employers check “on a regular basis” how well their arrangements are working, and that this means “consulting employees or their representatives”. Employers should “consider setting up joint management and safety representative committees to do this”.

If violence is still a problem, the four-stage process should be repeated to identify other preventive measures.

The Assaults Policy at bus company Stagecoach says that the company has carried out risk assessments of the customer-facing environment for drivers, supervisors and travel shop staff, and will review these assessments at regular local health and safety committee meetings.
