Annual Survey on Hours and Earnings

[ch 4: pages 35-36]

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) also publishes an Annual Survey on Hours and Earnings (ASHE). This is usually published in November of each year using data collected the previous April. This provides a detailed breakdown of median earnings and hours worked with annual increases or decreases tracked for the whole economy, by gender, age group, region of the UK (and devolved nations) and for particular sectors. Data is broken down into occupational groups, including managerial, professional occupations, skilled trades, administrative and secretarial, process, plant and machine operatives, customer service and elementary occupations. Detailed data sets which accompany the survey provide median earnings figures for close to 500 different occupations within these and other categories (www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/ashe/annual-survey-of-hours-and-earnings/index.html).
