Equality Law at Work 2018 - a guide for trade unions and working people (October 2018)

Chapter 15

Adjustments to working hours and disability

[ch 15: page 111]

There are many examples of reasonable adjustments to working hours and work arrangements to accommodate disability. A good example is the need to adjust hours to accommodate a worker’s Type 1 diabetes. Despite the law being clear, a 2018 survey of 800 diabetics reported in online magazine Personnel Today found that a quarter had been questioned about the sick days they had taken from work, while 12% claimed to have been refused time off.

There is more information about reasonable adjustments, including adjustments to working hours, in Chapter 8.
