Chapter 2

The Regulators’ Code

[ch 2: page 30]

The Regulators’ Code became legally binding on 6 April 2014, replacing the Regulators’ Compliance Code. It sets out how regulators should engage with those they regulate. Nearly all non-economic regulators, including local authorities, the HSE and fire and rescue authorities, are covered by it. They must consider the Code when developing the policies and operational procedures that guide their regulatory activities, and when setting standards and giving advice and guidance on the regulatory activities of other regulators.

The Code itself, and information on the bodies covered by it, is available from the Gov.uk website (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulators-code)
