Union reps are entitled to reasonable paid time off for certified training in their representative role. There is an Acas Code of Practice, Time off for trade union duties and activities.
Employees are entitled to legal protection if they are victimised or dismissed for acting as reps in a collective redundancy exercise.
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has confirmed that employees can act as representatives in a collective consultation exercise, and union reps can carry out their normal union duties while furloughed.
