Case law at work - 14th edition (January 2018)

Chapter 7

7. Whistleblowing

[ch 7: page 73]

Whistleblowing laws are found in the Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998 (PIDA). The Act gives workers specific rights, including the right not to suffer a detriment or be victimised at work, if they disclose information about alleged wrongdoing at work, where they reasonably believe their disclosure to be in the “public interest”.

Whistleblowing law is extremely complicated and anyone contemplating blowing the whistle should first seek legal advice. A good source of advice is expert whistleblowing charity Public Concern at Work (www.pcaw.org.uk) which runs a confidential helpline: 0207 404 6609.
