Promoting equality for disabled workers - a guide for trade union reps (November 2013)

Chapter 2

Physical features

Section 20(4) of the EA 2010 refers expressly to physical features. It says that where a physical feature puts a disabled person at a substantial disadvantage, an employer must take all reasonable steps to remove the disadvantage. A physical feature could include steps, emergency escape routes, signs and so on. A reasonable adjustment might include, for example, inviting a disabled employee to work in a ground floor office or from home, or modifying a building for a wheelchair user.
